The floods occurred in Shanghai on Friday after Typhoon Pulasan hit the city, however, this was right after the city was recovering from the strongest typhoon experienced in 75 years which was Typhoon Bebinca. According to state-run Xinhua news agency, Pulasan made landfall in the Fengxian district on Thursday night with wind speeds of 23 mertres per second (83 kilometers per hour).
Although the forecast has it that the storm will weaken as it traverses inland, an onslaught of rain lashed the city on Friday morning. Social media was inundated with photographs of neighbours tocalf-deep water, that has been the case in many neighbourhoods of the city, however, no serious damage or injuries have been reported to have occurred.

As of around 11am local time, the flooding was reported to have receded from most areas that were waterlogged and has returned to normal weather forecasts communicated Thursday night due to heavy rainfall. Some areas of the city had raised their typhoon alert levels, in anticipation of the storm.
