Supreme Fireworks, Sivakasi, experienced a small explosion that led to fireball engulfing the workers on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Two workers died and two others sustained severe injuries in a minor explosion at Supreme Fireworks located near Sivakasi area on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

The dead are identified as P. Mariappan (43) and P. Muthu Murugan (40), both hailing from Chidambarapuram according to the police. The injured are C. Saroja (52) of Chithamanaickanpatti and K. Sankaravelu (53) of Sevalur.

This follows an incident two months ago where ten employees died in a fireworks factory blast while thirteen others were injured

According to the police, some of the workers were moving chemicals by pushing a small cart from the chemical store room for mixing in one of the other rooms. The others were unloading them while Saroja and Sankaravelu sieved them when there was a blast and then they were engulfed by fireball.

The other two sustained serious injuries with over 90% burns but Mariappan and Muthu Murugan succumbed to burn injuries.

They were immediately taken to the government hospital in Sivakasi where they received first aid before being referred to Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital for further treatment.

In addition, some of the working sheds there were not destroyed because of this friction caused accident during handling these chemicals

The case is being investigated by M. Pudupatti Police who registered it.

They have also discovered last week that paper tubes meant for aerial fireworks around Sivakasi had been stored with about twenty four metric tons of suspected banned barium nitrate solutions used as oxidizers only in such devices..
