Donald Trump, a former US president and a Republican nominee for the forthcoming US election was given a warm welcome on Monday at the GOP National Convention in Milwaukee. It was his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt.
Trump waved at the packed arena while sporting a bandage on his ear as enthusiastic supporters among them greeted him with standing ovations and patriotic chants of “USA! USA!” This event occurred shortly after someone tried to attack him during a rally in Pennsylvania.
He did not give any speech at the convention but instead stood next to Senator J D Vance, his new running mate, and basked in applause and cheers. Then he went up into one of VIP boxes along with House Republican Byron Donalds and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson where Vance’s box was situated.
In navy blue suits and red ties, Trump smiled and applauded like other audience members when various officials and guests came onto stage. Many speakers thanked Trump for his strength after being attacked.
“He is just one tough S O B,” said Sean O’Brien, head of International Brotherhood of Teamsters which received thunderous reception from the crowd following Saturday’s tragic occurrences,
It is expected that this Thursday President Joe Biden will be challenged by Donald Trump who will then be formally nominated by his party come November 5th.
