In a new interview, former President Donald Trump alleged that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg assured him he would not vote for a Democrat in the upcoming November elections. Trump, speaking to New York Magazine, claimed that after the assassination attempt against him, Zuckerberg called to express his support.
Trump recounted Zuckerberg’s words: “‘I’ve never supported a Republican before, but there’s no way I can vote for a Democrat in this election.’” According to Trump, Zuckerberg, who he described as having a history of Democrat support, said he could not back the Democratic candidates after witnessing Trump’s actions.
In July, Zuckerberg praised Trump’s resilience in a Bloomberg interview, calling it “one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen” to see Trump get up and raise his fist after being shot. However, Trump’s recent claim comes amid a long-standing feud between the two. Last month, Trump threatened Zuckerberg with life imprisonment if he engaged in illegal activities or election fraud.
Meta responded to Trump’s latest claim by stating that Zuckerberg has publicly stated he is not endorsing anyone in the 2024 race and has not communicated his voting intentions to anyone.
Trump also mentioned receiving support from other tech figures, claiming Jeff Bezos called him to express admiration for his response to the assassination attempt. Trump reportedly acknowledged the call despite Bezos’ ownership of The Washington Post. Amazon did not comment on the claim.
Trump’s assertions remain unverified beyond his own statements, leaving the public to question whether tech CEOs are indeed shifting their political leanings.
