In a recent update on his Truth Social network, the former US President Donald Trump announced he has accepted an invitation by Fox News for a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. The event will be held in Pennsylvania on September 4 but the exact venue is unknown.
In addition, Trump spoke about an ABC news debate that was cancelled against Joe Biden and whose re-election campaign he had suspended by then. The former President alleged that this was because of his ongoing lawsuit against ABC and its host – George Stephanopoulos- which he believed presented a conflict of interest.
“I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump wrote. “The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest,” “he added”
Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate the upcoming debate. While Trump claims that the rules are like those of CNN’s June 27th meeting with Biden during which “he has been treated horribly by his Party”, it will feature an audience unlike CNN’s event.
Initially, Fox News had asked both Trump and Harris to attend a meeting in Pennsylvania on September 17th. Last month, she expressed her readiness to argue with him accusing him of going back from their agreement to participate in the debates at ABC News channel planned for September 10 before now.
This follows Biden stepping down from running again for presidency thus making Harris become Democratic Party’s official nominee for president as well.
Trump had earlier refused debating Harris because she was not their party candidate after Biden retired out of race. However, by Friday last week, the vice president secured enough delegates required for her affirmation as the party nominee.
