The peacock is protected bird under Wild Life Protection Act and killing it attracts imprisonment.
A youtuber named Kondam Pranay of Thangallapalli village in Rajanna Sircilla district was arrested by the Forest Department officials for posting a derogatory video “traditional peacock curry” on social media which elicited public outrage.
This video has caused a lot of noise from animal right activists who insist that this youtuber should be punished severely for creating such an awful video, advocating the killing of peacocks, the national bird which is listed under Schedule-I of Wildlife Protection Amendment Act, 2022.
On Sunday forest department raided the house of the Youtuber in Thangallapalli and had detained him. They recovered during the raid one chicken curry with feathers in it.
According to forest officials, when interrogated by them, he confessed that he prepared chicken curry and put it on YouTube as “traditional peacock curry”, so he could get more views.
The Forest Range Officer Kalpana Devi told the media that the seized curry has been sent to a laboratory to ascertain the exact content of meat. Any act promoting wildlife killing attracts punishment.
