On Wednesday, in a heartfelt Oval Office address, President Joe Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the upcoming presidential election, calling her “tough” and “capable.” This address was Biden’s first public comments since he announced he would not contest in 2024 and his decision to endorse Harris.
“She’s experienced, she’s tough, she’s capable. She has been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country. Now America, it is up to you,” Biden declared expressing that he believes Harris will be able to take over as the Democrats frontrunner.
“There is a time when new voices should emerge fresh with youth but there is also time to listen,” continued Biden.
The president’s speech focused on what lay ahead for the nation – he was grateful for the support of Harris in the next elections. “In just a few months’ time, Americans will decide their own future. I have made my choice… I have made my choice clear… I would like to give special thanks to our wonderful Vice President Kamala Harris,” repeated Mr. Biden again endorsing him.
This followed pressure from within his party and questions about his age and health especially after such a poor debate performance. However, instead of discussing these concerns, Biden pledged that he would continue advancing policies he set forth in his remaining years as President.
“I’ll be working on foreign and domestic policy,” confirmed Mr. Biden emphasizing that despite this announcement of not vying for presidency anymore; he will still try to advance administration policy goals while in office.
Biden closed by asking voters to consider what they believe makes Kamala Harris qualified over Donald Trump.
Calling any talk about having him step down ahead of November’s election so that she can run as an incumbent “ridiculous,” Jean-Pierre said that Karine Jean-Pierre who is acting Press Secretary ask if any point should be directed towards such a prospect for President Joe Biden.
Jean-Pierre said that Biden didn’t have any regrets about staying in the race as long as he did, or his dropping out of it last weekend. She also added that Biden’s dropped out had nothing to do with health.
Trump watched Biden’s address from his private jet and then posted on his social media platform that the president “was barely understandable, and sooo bad!”
