Voters at University College polling station in Mangalore, India. This is an election season as the biennial election for six legislative council seats in the teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies are taking place today.
1. The stage is being prepared for counting of votes of Lok Sabha polls tomorrow. In Karnataka, elections were held in two phases on April 26 and May 7 for a total of 28 seats. Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting.
2. The biennial elections to six seats in Legislative Council from Teachers and Graduates’ constituencies among others has got under way. Whenever, they are being conducted in Karnataka East Graduates’, Bangalore Graduates’, Karnataka South East Teachers’, Karnataka South West Teachers’, Karnataka South West Graduates’, and Karnataka South Teachers’ constituencies. In this seventy five member house, Congress does not have a majority and is hoping to increase it so that they can take over the majority from NDA through this election.
3. Today is the last day for filing nominations to 11 Council seats from Assembly constituencies. If there are not more than 11 candidates, then they may be declared elected unopposed after scrutiny of nominations.
4. After a night of extremely heavy rains all over the city especially Bengaluru where many places were inundated, trees falling and disruption in metro services; municipal officials are trying to put things back together again.
5.SIT is still probing allegations against Hassan MP Prajawal Revanna who has been accused of sexually abusing his step daughter with other sons accused as well while Bhavani Revanna mother of same child whereabouts have yet to be determined by police officers.
