Tina Datta is an actress from Kolkata and the winner of Bigg Boss 16 who has spoken out against a horrific rape and murder in a Kolkata hospital. She expressed her concern about women’s safety in her hometown, drawing attention to the gravity of this situation as well as the impunity that prevails among those in power.
“For instance, when I used to reside in Kolkata or even today for that matter when I go to Calcutta, I am strictly not allowed to step outside my house post 8:00. My parents are very, very in all about it. After 8 pm you can’t step out! This shows how safe that city’s streets are.”
The investigation’s integrity and aftermath troubles Tina as she remarked, “It’s shameful, hurtful, that the entire incident happened and the ministers are trying to cover it up. And if rumours are to be believed, the TMC’s boy is involved in it. Because of that TMC guy who was also studying Doctor there involved in it, the hospital and govt tried to wipe out all the evidence. You are informing the parents and family three hours later saying oh she committed suicide; couldn’t you see that bending over backwards like a contortionist girl will dislocate pelvises before committing suicide by crushing glasses ruining your eyes? Can you provide details on these suicides?”
Additionally she objected strongly at how postmortems were handled improperly: “In the Crematorium grounds she was third in line but wherein you put her first on line so that all evidences are wiped out.” I know how this crematorium grounds worksshe warned referring etc.”
She also criticized lack of action towards perpetrators; “Why isn’t CBI arresting the principal or DM or whoever was responsible for this particular hospital?” Wherever he walks freely?”
She accuses police of covering up crime Others snitched without any intervention from Police So obviously they have something to do with police and it is the Upper Hand that makes them not stopping. And who’s the upper hand? The CM of the state.” “For Nirbhaya’s case, it took 12 years for Nirbhaya to get justice and her parents to get justice. This means in our country it takes 12-15 years to get justice and there are no solution to it.”
She pleaded emotionally by bringing out her experiences on rape and how harassment had become pervasive. “Since I was a child, I have been molested many times. On most occasions, people hardly talk about this because they are ashamed or afraid or feel embarrassed as members of their own family often do these things to their children so you don’t know where safety would come from; you don’t even trust kindergartens, where children are still molested by their own teachers.”
Tina finished by demanding more stringent legislation and enforcement, “It is about time that Our PM should include stringent guidelines, legislations against sexual assault and simply chop their organ off instantly when they commit rape.” She stressed the importance of radical changes in the legal system to guarantee the security of females and kids in India.
