There was a moment at the United Center in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention that could only be described as lively and surprising when Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, was seen dancing to Bruce Springsteen’s memorable song “Born In The USA.” Just hours before Kamala Harris would become its presidential candidate, the Minnesota governor–who is a huge Springsteen fan–brought his kids Gus and Hope to the event.
As DJ Metro played this classic anthem, however, Walz couldn’t resist moving his body. They danced along with their father and also waved at people as they listened to fast-paced music. Which created an atmosphere that featured various movements and joyous scenes hence grabbing individuals on the internet by surprise.
Social media buzzed with comments for the spontaneous dance of the Walz family. A jubilant tweet claimed: “So happy and contagious watching Walz family laugh and dance to Born In The USA! We love youuuuuu.” Additionally, another user said: “MN Gov Tim Walz [the VP nominee] comes into convention hall as ‘Born in the USA’ plays. Walz is a big Springsteen fan.” Finally, another comment asked: “Omg did anyone get video of Tim Walz rockin’ out to Born in the USA?”
This celebratory incident contrasted sharply with other serious aspects of that day’s conference. One person who seemed particularly affected by it all was Gus, Walz’s son. His 17-year-old son was visibly shaken in front row. While his father accepted nomination for vice president and proudly pointing at him. This emotional performance emphasized how much this night meant for Gus and his family.
Tim Walz spoke to viewers at home via packed arena during his nomination speech saying. “We’re all here tonight for one beautiful simple reason: we love this country.” As he talked to them holding a microphone across delegates. Who were holding red white blue cards inscribed with his name and also the title “coach Walz” on top.
