According to the police, three women of one family died on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in Jam Khambhalia town in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat after a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed amid heavy rainfall in Saurashtra region of the state.
On a war footing, rescue operations were carried out by National Disaster Response Force teams present at the scene and all three bodies of the dead were recovered.
Bipin Kumar, an NDRF inspector (Vadodara), earlier said that “The NDRF team immediately reached the spot after receiving the information of a three-storey building collapse. Two to three people are feared trapped under debris. The rescue operation is going on.”
Earlier today, it was reported that there was waterlogging in many areas due to heavy rains in Porbandar district of Gujarat. KD Lakhani, District Collector, Porbandar added there were no losses from non-stop rains in districts.
Consequently Monday’s rain was disruptive for people living in Surat.
The streets have suffered severe water logging as a result of this torrential downpour in parts of town.
Also on Sunday there was tremendous rainfall within Surat city which have induced flooding according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) who say that very heavy rainfall will continue over Gujarat for next two days.
“Isolated extremely heavy rainfall will very likely continue over Gujarat State, Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra during next 2 days and heavy to very heavy rainfall thereafter.”
