In a Saturday night’s victory, India’s Rohit Sharma and his team made it one of the most joyful moments in Indian cricket history (Fighters, heroes, champions, 1).
It was a combined effort to win the T20 World Cup but seven people stood out above others (The T20 World Cup triumph was a team effort but overall, seven men stood taller than the rest.).
WISH TEAM INDIA
ROHIT SHARMA
In the IPL, he was not performing well with bat and MI captaincy. Still he is there when we need him! Just like during ODI world Cup, Rohit once again placed his team first. He went for broke: every run scored at an astronomical 157.00 strike rate over five matches totaling 257 runs – more than anyone else on the squad. Above all as per the commentators he had
craft and calm in captaincy executing dressing room plans to perfection. His ebullience at the top will be as missed as his captaincy
Do You Know? He hit 24 fours and 15 sixes.
SURYAKUMAR YADAV
South Africa had given away that world cup in 1999. Luckily Yadav saved it for India. His catch in the deep that comes only once in a lifetime was reminiscent of Kapil Dev’s running backwards to grab Vivian Richards’. ‘SKY’ had big shoes to fill being ranked number one T20 batsman worldwide.. There were two very useful innings from him against USA and England teams which helped us indeed towards this noble end (His knocks against USA and England were vital to the team’s cause.)And our country beat Australia (31 off 16)and Afghanistan(53 off28) through him.
Do You Know? Sixty percent of his runs came from boundaries i.e., fours and sixes alone(He scored 60% of his runs in fours and sixes).
HARDIK PANDYA
At the World Cup, he redid his life story. During 2023 ODI WC, a leg injury forced Pandya to pull out halfway. His MI transfer and captaincy turned into a big controversy with IPL form subject of savage digs. However at thirty years of age the all-rounder showed why Pandya is irreplaceable as he scored runs at an electrifying pace (strike rate:151)
this WC, changing pace and taking 11 wickets while breaking partnerships and providing crucial breakthroughs.
Top Moment: His figures were 3/20 with Klaasen and Miller being dismissed in the final.
AXAR PATEL
India’s luckiest moments came from aggressive batting as well as sharp left arm spin-bowling by him throughout this championship . He sliced through England’s top and middle order (3/23), helped India regain momentum with bat (47 off 31, 4 sixes) in the final and against Pakistan .He came into this championship as a handyman but went away a complete all-rounder
Top Moment: India’s game changed when he took Mitchell Marsh’s catch.
KULDEEP YADAV
With the exception of being thrashed in the final match, ever since Super 8 stage, India cricket lovers have been excited by this joyful ‘chinaman’ with curly hair thanks to his craftiness and subtle guile. Was great during semis where he broke England’s back
Top Moment: The ball that bowled Harry Brook around his legs can be looped for eternity
JASPRIT BUMRAH
In every game no one could play him in eight games whatsoever everyone managed him like very expensive glass but bamboozled all due to his video game-like magic; unsurprisingly Bumrah is miles ahead of anyone else because he is the world’s best paceman. Nobody tricks, moves and changes like him-an explosive combination that gave Bumrah 15 wickets at 8.2 runs each for a mindboggling economy of 4.2 in this WC to make him The Man. His ER is the best ever in a T20 World Cup by bowler bowling at least 20 overs
Top Moment: All bowled. Most notably Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan), Phil Salt (England), Reeza Hendricks and Marco Jansen(SA).
ARSHDEEP SINGH
This Chandigarh-born youngster of twenty-five grabbed the second seamer slot exploring USA’s uneven pitches’ sharp movement and bounciness and proved an excellent partner for Bumrah as well. He also had the tournament’s joint highest number of wickets with 17 just like Fazalhaq Farooqi from Afghanistan making them both the highest for any T20 WC.
Top Moment: Dangerous Tim David and Mathew Wade (Australia) were dismissed in one over.
THEY ALSO SERVED WITH MERIT
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja as well as Shivam Dube had their own moments too. Pant was priceless with his knock of 42 off 31 against Pakistan on a treacherous pitch.
Squad members Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal as well as Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t get to play any match.
COACH: RAHUL DRAVID went out on a high note finishing his tenure getting the best out of his wards.
THE LAST SHALL BE THE FIRST
VIRAT KOHLI: His scores before the final match were these: 1, 4, 0, 24, 37, 0, 9. Balance and concentration form part of his strengths. However, Kohli who was scoring runs by tons at IPL in 2024 appeared to lose both against WC. It came out that he had kept his best for the last game. And this finally paid off with a scintillating knock of 76 he played against South Africa on only 59 deliveries which is much higher than what he scored in all his previous seven innings combined (75). India will miss his class and reassuring presence in the game’s shortest version.
DON’T YOU KNOW? This is a world record for most Man of the Match (MoM) awards made by any player in T20 International matches – sixteen MoMs. As regards World Cups alone, however, there are eight such awards—the highest ever given to an individual in the tournament.
