Recently, information emerged about the surprising connection between Vice President Kamala Harris and Meghan Markle, implying that the Duchess of Sussex might soon endorse Harris for the 2024 elections.
At this particular time, Harris is amassing support from celebrities such as George Clooney, Beyoncé and Kesha. The question regarding Markle’s possible endorsement has led to increased interest in their relationship as important women.
Harris has praised Markle in the past though they did not meet during her vice presidency term.
According to News week, two notable interactions were brought up: In October 2019, Harris retweeted a video of Markle talking about media scrutiny while she was expecting her first child. “When you are pregnant, especially as a woman…you feel really vulnerable so thank you for asking,” said the duchess. Responding to this tweet, Harris wrote: “This is incredibly important. We must remember that it’s a sign of strength to show emotion. Meghan, we are with you.”
Moreover, in June 2020 when Markle made her virtual commencement address on racial inequality and Black Lives Matter movement which received praise from no less than Senator Kamala Harris. Harris claimed: “I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing” after hearing Markel speak these words. The then-Senator tweeted: “Thank you Meghan for this powerful statement.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggests that an endorsement by Markle may come soon and could also act as a platform for her own political aspirations. The Daily Express quoted him saying: “Markle’s support could not only bolster Harris’s campaign but also set the stage for Markle’s future in politics.”
Since January 2020 when she stopped being part of royal family duties together with Prince Harry; there has been an increasing participation of Meghan in US politics by advocating various causes and warning against AI-generated misinformation.
Additionally, there have been rumours that the duchess has been contemplating on running for Dianne Feinstein’s vacant seat after she passed away in September 2023. a move that would take her politics to another level.
The potential endorsement by Markle could prove to be a significant boost as ‘Harris’ campaign maintains its momentum.
