Indian-American lawmaker Shri Thanedar, who represents Michigan’s Detroit area and is a first-term congressman in the battleground state, has given his unwavering support to President Joe Biden for re-election. The endorsement of Thanedar carries enormous weight because he is one of the few elected Indian American Congressman from Michigan`s Detroit region.
After last week’s debate setback in Atlanta, Thanedar is now the first of five Indian-American Congressmen in the House of Representatives to openly endorse Biden. The outcome of this debate led Biden’s approval ratings down and increased demands from Democrats for him to withdraw from the race. A victory by Biden in Michigan would be critical in his difficult campaign against Republican opponent Donald Trump.
Thanedar recalled his experiences with Biden, saying “A few months ago I sat just 20 feet from President Biden as he outlined his vision for our country almost an hour long.” And “I have spoken to him privately several times where he talks about Detroit very fondly and understands what problems we are facing.” That was the same person we voted for in 2020 because he performed most effectively than any other leader modern times had seen.”
Among other accomplishments during his first term, Thanedar pointed out that under President Biden, there has been record infrastructure spending; significant investments have been made through the CHIPS Act on semiconductors and supply chains; insulin costs have been reduced; and for nearly twenty-nine years, first major gun safety legislation came into effect. He further acknowledged that more effort is needed especially on affordable housing issues, and stated that federal contributions should be expanded.
“There’s still so much more work to do including increasing federal investment particularly in areas like housing,” said Thanedar. “To me it’s simple – We need a president who will bring more federal dollars into our district not like Trump who just keeps giving tax breaks to rich people. So I’m confident that President Biden is definitely the right choice for the 13th district,” Thanedar concluded.
