The ministry of foreign affairs of Thailand said on Friday that next month’s BIMSTEC summit for the seven countries’ leaders in South Asia has been delayed until after a new government is formed.
Since last week when Srettha Thavisin was ousted as premier and his successor Paetongtarn Shinawatra has not yet selected her cabinet, Thailand is currently under an interim government.
The meeting had been scheduled to occur between September 3 and 4 in Bangkok. Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) comprises of Thailand, India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan whose leaders meet biennially for the summit.
