On Thursday, the Thailand court suspended Thai Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin when he was found to have appointed a previous attorney with criminal antecedents as a minister.
Forty senators complained against Srettha and demanded his dismissal after he included Pichit Chuenban in his cabinet last month. They claim that Pichit’s appointment violates the constitution and that he did not possess values of integrity and ethics that are required for a ministerial post by the constitution.
The Shinawatra family has been closely associated with Pichit over an extended period whose parties have won all but one election in the last 20 years.
He was sentenced to six months imprisonment for contempt of court in 2008; it had been claimed that at this juncture he attempted to bribe court officials while having concealed inside a paper grocery bag two million baht ($55,218). Following his suspension from practice for five years on account of this incident.
Pichit resigned on Tuesday to facilitate Srettha’s escape from trial.
