Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) has decided to issue the monthly energy bills to its consumers with a QR code.
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) has recently resolved to release monthly energy bills to customers with a QR code, so that payment can be made without entering Unique Service Connection (USC) number in the utility’s website/app, after discontinuing direct payment through third-party apps (UPIs)/banks.
According to officials at the Southern Discom, this month (July 1), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines hindered customers from making their monthly energy bill payment via third-party apps/banks/UPIs such as BillDesk, Paytm, T-Wallet, TG/AP Online/MeeSeva, GooglePay, PhonePe and others and now they have to pay their bills only through the utility’s website/app besides bill collection centers/counters.
On scanning these QR code it takes them directly into the payment section on the utility’s website/app where they can make their payments without feeding USC number.
“The change is that now consumers will have to visit Discom’s website/app for making payments instead of going through any UPI/Banks for payments as consumer’s are redirected to third party apps,” said one official.
Collection of revenues remains unaffected despite shift in easy bill payment facility as nearly 1.2 lac people paid through available networks. Billing started from July and is still ongoing. The Discom offers services for about 12 million customers except for agriculture pump-set connections which are provided free supply since no billing is done for them making up around over one crore subscribers.
