Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of Telangana launched a searing offensive against the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the opposition, for dishonouring national figures especially the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. According to him however, his government would proceed with the installation of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue just opposite to the Telangana Secretariat no matter what.
While speaking at an event commemorating Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary at Somajiguda on Tuesday (August 20, 2024), Mr. Reddy rebuked the BRS for disregarding the legacy of Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Reddy railed against K.T. Rama Rao, who is the working president of BRS, for opining that they would remove even after it was unveiled the statue of Rajiv Gandhi from secretariat; he told them to touch it if they dare.
There was hypocrisy in BRS leadership regarding its demand for ‘Telangana Talli’ statue at Secretariat, according to Mr.Reddy. He further argued that Telangana cultural heritage was ignored by them for over ten years when in power but are now using it as political mileage.The Chief Minister stated that Congress would not tolerate any action against statue of Rajiv Gandhi.“And I am warning these people [BRS] – you cannot make such statements or take such actions because then you will be thrown out by society,” he cautioned.
“Let them try to touch Rajiv gandhi statue,” said Mr.Reddy. “We shall protect it with all our strength. .We will unveil grandly soon rajiv’s statue.”
In December 9th this year, The chief minister criticized Bharat Rashtra Samithi(BRS)for not installing Telangana Talli statue and announced his government would ensure installation of Telangana Talli statues in secretariat;
