At a site proposed for the metro rail project in Coimbatore, a team of officials did an inspection on Thursday 4th July 2024.
According to the press release by AIIB the project’s second phase in Chennai is funded by this bank where it also has shown interest to finance Madurai and Coimbatore metro rail projects. Consequently, they visited Ukkadam in Coimbatore where their metro project was suggested. The Bank officials were accompanied with Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) project officials.
T.Archunan, Director-Projects from CMRL, Wenyu Gu, Senior Transportation Specialist of AIIB as well as Rekha Prakash, Chief General Manager-Planning went to Ukkadam in Coimbatore.
Other multi-lateral banks have also shown interest to fund this project according to that press statement. However, which are the financial institutions financing such future proposed metro-rail project in Coimbatore will be decided by the Union Ministry of Finance.
The Tamil Nadu government forwarded its metro plan seeking international finance for the same through Union government last month.
