The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has revised the cost of 3-phase meters for solar rooftop installations paid by Low Tension consumers (i.e. domestic consumers).
On May 18, 2024, through a circular notice, TANGEDCO announced that it had revised the charges made to those customers who wish to utilize bi-directional metering systems in their Solar Rooftop installations on LT (Low Tension) services. Currently, such applicants will have to pay ₹2,764 for single phase LT connections and ₹5,011 for the same in case of three phase connection.
Before now, three-phase LT customers were paying an amount of ₹10,588 as per service connection. With regards to meter charges being reduced from ₹6,783 to ₹2,610 and no more collection of testing fees.
Furthermore; in cases where there are bi-direction meters or programmable bi-direction meters provided for services rendered; consumers should be refunded the meter cost paid subsequent to solar connection according information contained in this memo.
Last month however following an RTI query by Coimbatore Consumer Cause (CCC), it was clarified that only registration fee and bi-directional meter cost are recoverable at places where one might replace normal meters with such bi-directional types supplied by TANGEDCO-Tamilnadu Electricity Regulatory Commission.
This led the consumer organization to complain about the excessive amounts of money demanded by TANGEDCO.
