This month sanskrti will almost realise a sanction of around 76 thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft), which means Tamil Nadu is getting the yearly acces to the rivers water which is 177.25 tmc ft within this month.

As of August 27, 2024, approximately 174 tmc ft-174.36 tmc ft has been allocated to the state since first June 2024 which is the beginning of the current water year. However, it will not take long before even this year’s daily expenditure inflow is completely accounted for.

In the months June and July, the figures of realizations were 2.25 tmc ft and 96.54 tmc ft respectively.

It was in the months August 2022, when Biligundulu, which is the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border point, for the measurement of the received the highest realisation of 223.6 tmc ft for the month in question since 1974. (which is when inter-state agreement in court besides the decree issued in 2018 was over)

Analysing the data of realization ameliorated for the month of August over the years beginning from the year 1974 it would be clear that the mean figure of realisation during the span of 50 years (1974-2023) averaged out to 62 tmc ft. But where average is calculated by segmenting the said period into several subdivisions scattered average figures are observed.

Pattern of Realisation during August

Citing some of those examples, during the 1974-1990 period (which was marked by the negotiations of the riparian states), the average was 71 tmc ft. It was reduced to only approximate 50 tmc ft for the period between the years 1991 and 2012 when the interim order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal was applicable. For the month, the Tribunal’s stipulation was 54.72 tmc ft. The average further dwindled to an average of 39 tmc ft during the years 2013-2017, when the unamended version of the Tribunal’s final award was operational, the mandatory volume of the month of August being 50 tmc ft.

Nonetheless, the overall progresses very high up to 98.75 tmc ft between 2018, which was the year the court experience a partial modification of the final award and the year 2023. This was caused particularly because of two outlying years: 2018 and 2022.

6 years back, the working out in the month of the aug is 176.5 tmc ft and 2 years back it was 223.6 tmc ft. After this period, August came across 45.95 tsfc tmcft, which has been set after the Court’s modification of the final award.
