M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, who is presently on a visit to the US to promote tourism in the suggested state signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Google to set up AI laboratories in the State. On his visit, he also met with top officials of Apple and Microsoft who he has extended an invitation to come and invest in Tamil Nadu.
“I was spellbound during the visit to the offices of Apple, Google and Microsoft. There were discussions on a lot of options and some thrilling partnerships. We are going to enhance the thrust on these partnerships and make sure Tamil Nadu becomes one of the key growth hubs in Asia,” Mr Stalin posted on social media.
Mr. Stalin spoke with senior executives on the Mountain View campus, which is owned by Google, and talked about selling Pixel 8 phones and other company products in Tamil Nadu.
He said the State was eager to partner with Google and the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, a skill development initiative, to train more than 2 million young people in AI.
A State government press release stated that when the Chief Minister met the officials of Apple, he appreciated them for bringing Tamilnadu on the map of manufacturing electronic goods worldwide.
To majority of them, he stated that the State does well in housing and transport, and that the government has improved the infrastructure in order to make it the manufacturing hub of Asia. Tamil Nadu has the congenial atmosphere for investment: he was friendly soliciting them regarding putting their money in the State.
The discussions he held included Microsoft’s CEO Ryan Rosalsky and others regarding construction of more data centres as well as investments into Global Capability Centre and AI.
State Industries Minister T.R.B Raja and other officials were present in the meetings.
