Stree 2, a horror-comedy sequel, has rocked the box office with its Independence Day release. Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starred in the movie which was met by an outstanding response and broke a long-standing collection record.
Midnight Madness Pays Off
One day after its release, extra midnight shows for Stree 2 were added in major cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Delhi in an unprecedented move. The reaction to these shows has been nothing short of electrifying hence significantly contributing to the film’s overall opening day box office collection.
According to initial estimates, Stree 2 made an astonishing Rs.42-44 crore on day one. Combined with paid previews that fetched it Rs.8.50 crore, the movie’s total first-day collection comes to a monumental Rs.52.50 crores.
Breaking Records
This feat is particularly noteworthy considering it outperforms Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express’ previous record. In 2013 this blockbuster film caused quite a stir by hosting paid preview shows before the official day of release thus amassing an amount worth Rs6.75 crore through them alone while Stree 2 not only surpassed but did so with a wide margin.
Several factors have contributed to the film’s success such as strong word-of-mouth communication about it and loyal fan base apart from effective marketing campaign itself. Moreover, introducing midnight shows has proven to be a masterstroke since it tapped into audience’s enthusiasm for the film.
With its impressive opening, Stree 2 is now one of the year’s biggest hits so far. It will certainly be watched closely by industry insiders and fans alike as it goes through its run at the box office.
