Akhilesh Yadav, President of Samajwadi Party called for a defamation case against BJP MLA Rajesh Chaudhary over his remarks against BSP President Mayawati.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Chaudhary from Mathura district’s Mant area is heard saying in a video from a news channel shared by Yadav on his social media account on X on Friday (August 23, 2024). “There is no doubt that Mayawati has been the chief minister of UP four times. And it was us (BJP) who made her the chief minister for the first time. We made that mistake”.
“Mayawati is the most corrupt chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,” says Mr. Chaudhary further in the video.
Condemning these remarks in his post written on X in Hindi on Friday (August 23, 2024), Mr. Yadav said. “Political differences have their place but no one has the right to tarnish her dignity as a woman. BJP members are saying that making her chief minister was a mistake. Which is also an insult to public opinion in a democratic country.”
“Moreover, it is also unacceptable to make unsupported accusations that she was the most corrupt chief minister. This constitutes an offence of libel or slander against this Republic statement,” concluded Mr. Akhilesh Yadav.
The SP leader observed that such “disrespectful remarks” directed at Mayawati by BJPs legislator reflects deep-rooted anger towards women especially those who come from marginalized and oppressed communities.
According to him sheltering such MLAs amounts to deeply hurting women’s dignity by BJP.
“If BJP does not take swift disciplinary actions against such people it will be understood as not just one legislator’s perspective alone. But party wide view” said former UP Chief Minister in his aforementioned post.
