South Korea’s army has made North Korean troops retreat by firing warning shots after Pyongyang soldiers intruded the rivals’ land border for the third time this month, giving rise to high tension simmering along the Korean border.
The South Korean Joint Chief of Staff said several North Korean troops crossed the military demarcation line on Thursday proceeding with an unknown assignment on the north side of the border after Seoul’s action at the border.
Nevertheless, Pyongyang has not gone as far as to consider these two previous incursions intentional because after shooting warning shots, Northern soldiers withdrew their forces without any retaliatory actions.
Since April, spirit has been maintaining hawk-eye surveillance over very fast construction activity that is being done by North Korea. This includes what appears to be building anti-tank ditches, road reinforcement and plantation of landmines.
Some South Koreans amplified tensions beyond a military scope when they flew large balloons over into North Korea carrying anti-North Korean leaflets on Friday. This action just brings back memories of Cold War days which have haunted both countries for years.
According to AP news agency’s information provided by a Seoul-based South Korean civilian group led by Park Sang-hak, “Twenty balloons floated across 300,000 propaganda leaflets together with 5000 USB sticks containing songs and TV shows from south Korea and 3000 $1 bills in Paju town near the border on Thursday night.”
Last time when Park’s group and other activists dropped propaganda leaflets from above, North Koreas’ response was releasing more than 1000 balloons which dumped tons of trash in South Korea smashing roof tiles as well as windows.
Tensions between North and South Korea have reached their highest point in years following Kim Jong-un’s development of his nuclear weapons. The move will see him enhance its influence in a regional context while Russia’s president Vladimir Putin will be able to use it against the West headed by USA .
