Nearly 12 years after Son of Sardaar, an action-comedy movie came out; Ajay Devgn will be back with the sequel. Initially it was reported that both Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt would not return to their roles, but there is a new update concerning them. According to Mid-day, Sanjay Dutt has reportedly agreed to participate in the making of Son of Sardaar 2, as its title suggests. There is one hitch: this film will not be a continuation of the plotline in the previous movie; instead, it will present an original story.

“The sequel is a fresh story,” said an insider. “It won’t pick up where the original film left off.” Some fans may wonder about what role Devgn and Dutt will play in all this. However, according to a source close to development team members who spoke with Bollywoodlife.com on August 13th, they have been told that while the characters had changed somewhat due to new storyline injunctions from writer/director duo Ashwini Dhir and Robin Bhatt respectively; their names remained intact for continuity purposes – Ajay Devgn continued in his role as Jaswinder “Jassi” Singh Randhawa while Sanjay Dutt went on playing Balwinder “Billu” Singh Sandhu.
But now these characters are different from themselves says the same source. “Their on-screen relationship was a hilarious rivalry in Son of Sardar,” they explain. “This time, however, their rivalry will be much more intense, with Sanjay’s character leaning towards the antagonist side.” Despite their on-screen conflict, Ajay and Sanjay are close friends in real life. Ajay specifically ensured that Sanjay has a fantastic role in the second part.
Son of Sardaar 2 will be directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, a famous Punjabi filmmaker, who has also worked as DOP on Devgn’s 2014 flick Action Jackson.
Arora is planning to start shooting for the film in Scotland towards the end of July with an expected duration of fifty days. The choice of location is quite interesting. These include breathtaking sceneries like castles, ancient towns, lochs and beaches which have served for films such as Game of Thrones and Harry Potter series. “The direction team conducted a recce earlier this year and finalized some scenic locations. These include the towns of Glencoe and Glenfinnan, along with landmarks like Culross Palace, Doune Castle, Preston Mill, and Falkland Palace,” says our source.
These picturesque locales are expected to perfectly complement the film’s blend action-drama concept conceived by the director. Furthermore; there are several romantic songs that will be shot between Devgn and Mrunal Thakur in Scotland.
At present Ajay Devgn is wrapping up Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again which he should finish by next week. After finishing that film he will be totally focused on Son of Sardaar 2. Once the Scotland schedule is complete, Devgn would then head to London to begin filming for De De Pyaar De 2 reportedly.
