The police arrested Chetan Patil, who is the structural consultant named in the First Information Report related to the incident of collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, from Kolhapur on Friday (30-08-2024).

Patil was arrested late Thursday (29-08-2024) night and produced before the Sindhudurg police for investigations, Kolhapur SP Mahendra Pandit said.

He is from Kolhapur and posed on August 28, 2024, to be a structural consultant for the project, and did not claim to be the structural consultant of the undertaking.

In their angry remarks to the Marathi news channel, ABP Majha, Patil, who was recorded in the FIR along with Jaydeep Apte, an artist rejected that. “I presented the platform design to the Indian Navy through the states PWD but i did not deal with the statue.”

“Also, the statue was worked on by one company based in Thane. My only work was the platform for the statue which was built later. Since then, i was told,” Patil had stated.

A 35 feet statue of Maratha Warrior king unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Navy Day (4th of December) last year in Rajkot Fort, Malvan tehsil of execution of Sindhudurg province, came down crumbles around 1 pm on Monday.

It sparked shame to Eknath Shinde led Maharashtra administration and ignited outrage and protests from the opposition parties. The chief minister however remarked that this particular statue was designed and built by Indian Navy.
