Last Saturday, Kamala Harris was insulted by Donald Trump who called her a “bum” and argued that she had failed in the capacity of Vice President. “She was a bum three weeks ago. She was a bum, a failed vice president,” Trump said.
Trump appeared without bandage since assassination attempt
Trump spoke at the Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday, his first public appearance without an ear bandage after surviving an assassination attempt, where he also depicted Harris as backing extremists’ leftwing positions and accused her of wanting to impose San Francisco liberal values such as “crazy” ones upon the entire nation by indicating how she might fill judicial vacancies if given a chance.
“Kamala Harris will appoint hundreds of extreme far-left judges to forcibly impose crazy San Francisco liberal values on Americans,” Trump said.
Shift in campaign focus following Biden’s withdrawal
The other day’s speech marked his second major campaign appearance since President Joe Biden unexpectedly withdrew from the 2024 presidential race earlier this week. The change in dynamics caused Trump to shift his attacks from Biden towards Harris who is now the Democratic nominee.
The former president also declared Harris “worse than Joe Biden and, in a true sense, much more liberal.”
According to Trump: “Biden didn’t want to do what he did. He said ‘I will never go out I will never ever go out’, two days later ‘I’m proud to go out’. Because the fascists threatened him with the 25th Amendment. They said we can do it the nice way or we can do it the hard way Joe. That’s what happened I know. I know as many people on that side as I know on our side. But that’s what happened. And now they are trying to make him a brave hero. ‘He is so brave.’
Regarding Biden’s recent speech about withdrawing; “The other night he made a speech, look i’m not going to look into it I’m going to give people credit or no credit. It was horrible,” Trump commented on the sincerity and quality of Biden’s address.
Dig at Harris’ name
These are various ways of pronouncing her name. They told me ‘you can say Comma-la, you can say Kah-mala,’” Trump said. He has always used the latter, which is wrong.
“‘Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t matter what I say,’” he also added. “I couldn’t care less if I mispronounce it.”
‘Kamala is Biden’s border czar’
Trump’s speech continued his campaign’s pattern of attacking Harris on immigration issues, despite her role not encompassing overall border policy. The Washington Post wrote that this was how she was referred by Republicans who wanted to criticize their handling of migration issues though there is no official title like such as President Biden’s “border czar”.
Particularly noteworthy was the speech by Trump, in which he gave a head-on attack on Harris’s policies and beliefs considering that it had been directed towards Christians predominantly. Therein, he accused Harris of looking forward to filling the Supreme Court with “hard-core Marxists” who would use it to undermine both The Constitution and religious liberties. Similarly, Trump also voiced his opinions regarding abortion rights while accusing Harris of endorsing extreme late-term abortions. This however is not based on any current law or policy position by Harris.
Not only did President Trump lash out at Senator Kamala Harris’ abortion stance but also about her handling of immigration. Alluding to them as immigrants, the president generally described them negatively and without proof claimed that Democrats and Harris were encouraging illegal border crossings to boost voter registers.
He also attacked Kamala’s approach towards the Israel-Palestine conflict by labeling her as “hostile to Americans of faith” and lacking sufficient backing for Israel. He criticized her more during his recent meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago mansion where he further demonstrated his pro-Israeli disposition.
Trump’s comments were denounced as offensive and false by James Singer, a spokesman for the Harris campaign. In a statement, Singer said: “Trump went on and on and on; generally sounding like someone you wouldn’t want sitting next to you in a restaurant—let alone being president of the United States.”
