Shatrughan Sinha addressing rallies against Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s marriage: “My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional”
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal have finally tied the knot. The smitten lovebirds said their vows in a small ceremony attended by close family members and friends before hosting an amazing reception filled with love and laughter on June 23. However, this union has bee condemned by Hindu Shivbhavani Sena, a segment of extremists in Patna that refers to such marriages as ‘love jihad’, demonizing interfacing relationships especially between Muslim men and non-Muslim women.
This hate speech was further articulated through posters scattered all over Patna threatening Sonakshi, even her father Shatrughan Sinha who is a Bollywood actor turned politician. According to the posters, this wedding is part of attempts to “Muslimize” India; they also demand renaming his palatial residential complex located in Mumbai called “Ramayana”, his sons Luv and Kush claiming these names are disrespectful to Hinduism.
Shatrughan Sinha did not back down in response to this wave of hating. He considered those protesters as being unemploy who should get busy because he referred to them as “unemployed people”. In an interview with Time Now, Mr. Shatrughan Sinha added that And whenever any professional protestors would talk about it, Anand Bakshi saab has written about such people ‘Kuch toh log kahenge logon ka kaam hai kehna’. To which I would like to add kehne waale agar bekar bekaam-kaaj ke ho to kehna hi kaam ban jata hai (For unemployed people, this is all the work they have).’ My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional.”
He went on saying that “Marriage is a private affair, an individual’s choice; people should not have anything to do with it. So I tell the protestors – move on get a life, do something else that is worth while. Aur kuch nahi kehna (I have nothing else to say)”.
Sonakshi and Zaheer are avoiding negativity. They posted photos from their court wedding as well as other reception pictures but disabled comments in order for them to protect themselves from online bullies.
