Baahubali: Crown of Blood is an upcoming Disney+ Hotstar animated series for which Sharad Kelkar provided his voice. In Hyderabad, where he was promoting the show along with SS Rajamouli and team, this well-known actor talked about the dubbing process for the film and how it felt to be back as Baahubali again. He had acted in the popular Bahubali films as Prabhas’ character.
Sharad Kelkar reflects on his journey from stammering to voicing Baahubali; says, “My life changed after…”
While sharing stage with Rajamouli for the first time, Sharad Kelkar was full of appreciation and anxiety saying, “I am nervous because I’m sharing stage with Rajamouli sir for the first time. I have to thank him for making me the voice of Baahubali. My life changed after the films were released. From being a boy from a small town who had a stammer to becoming the voice of Baahubali, it has been a journey.” Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged that his voice received unexpected love and coming back to play it in an animation series is like going back home.
According to Kelkar, although having voiced this character before made it easier for him in terms of familiarity but not having Prabhas around as a reference posed some challenges while dubbing for Baahubali again.“I didn’t have Prabhas as a reference this time like I did last time. It was difficult knowing that he’s not there anymore,” he said. “But I kept thinking how he would do it, how he would say something and that helped me dub for it. Hopefully audience will like it.” This boosted his morale since he believed in new set.
It will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar starting May 17th and will narrate one dark chapter in Mahishmati kingdom’s history that determined destinies of Baahubali and Bhallaladeva. SS Rajamouli pointed out that the events of this series happened during the time when Baahubali movies were going on, to add depth to the beloved story. With Rajamouli as its director and Sharad Devaranjan as its producer, this series aims to captivate audiences again.
