Some post-poll violence was recorded in certain parts of West Bengal on June 5, a day after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, which saw Trinamool Congress take 29 seats out of the total 42 seats, reducing BJP to 12 seats in the State.
Violence occurred across several districts of Cooch Behar in northern Bengal, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas in southern Bengal and Jhargram in Jangalmahal region.

A BJP supporter attacked a Trinamool worker with a gun at Natabari in Cooch Behar; footage of this event went viral. In that area there were clashes between people supporting the ruling party and those supporting the BJP.
It is alleged that several houses belonging to supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as its party office were vandalised by people armed with iron rods and guns near Madhyamgram under Barasat constituency within North 24 Parganas district.

Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency’s Bhatpara also witnessed violence. Houses belonging to BJP workers came under attack and crude bombs were thrown after the announcement of results.
Crude bombs were allegedly thrown at a BJP agent’s house located within Narendrapur village in South 24 Parganas while another one was reported to have been hurled into a Howrah based residence belonging to an unidentified BJP worker.
Several party supporters had to flee from Sandeshkhali following declaration of Lok Sabha results, according to West Bengal BJP leadership. Sandeshkhali is part of Basirhat Lok Sabha seat within North 24 Parganas. About 40 BJP families sought refuge at a party office in Jadavpur area, south Kolkata.
Post-poll violence occurred in constituencies where BJP lost to Trinamool. In the outlying parts of the city including Bijoygarh, Kamarhati and Jadavpur, not only the supporters of BJP but also that of Communist Party of India Marxist were targeted.
The day after polling had been done on June 2, a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was killed in Nadia district allegedly during an incidence arising from post-poll violence. Another shooting was recorded within the district on Wednesday as police is trying to find out whether it is connected with a political rivalry between two different groups or not.
The Election Commission has decided to postpone approximately 400 companies of central armed forces in the state till 19th June to check the incidents of post poll violence.
West Bengal saw widespread incidents of post-poll violence after Assembly polls held first time in 2021 wherein Trinamool defeated BJP. Orissa has witnessed more than four thousand five hundred fake encounters and arrest for political reasons last year when forty persons were killed during local government elections.”
