The Rajya Sabha seat that was left by K. Keshava Rao will have a bypoll on September 3 and the Election Commission will release notification on August 14.
On September 3, elections for the twelve seats in Telangana, including this bye poll, were announced by the Election Commission. Mr. Keshava Rao, who was elected from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), vacated this seat when he joined Congress lastly, but he had months left in his tenure that would end in March 2026.
The party high command may decide who among various contenders within Telangana state congress deserves this one. Since it is less than two years, it might consider a senior leader from North India. In light of Supreme Court’s decision about categorizing SC reservations, however, they may choose to have a Dalit leader on a temporary basis. In any case, if party is changed due to change in short term politics then name of prominent leaders like K. Jana Reddy and V. Hanumantha Rao would obviously come out as contestants when taking into account that this opportunity could be their last chance at securing public office.
