Elevating the expectation, the much-awaited teaser trailer of Jigra was released yesterday, September 8, digitally. Featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead along with Vedang Raina, the promo has been appreciated as it showcases Alia in a new avatar and look forward to the twist of a sister coming to the rescue of her brother in the film. The editors of Bollywood Hungama were already wise to the fact that this is not an average back-to-back cross-over feature assault.
Sources have confirmed to Bollywood Hungama when it was said, “Jigra is a remake of the film Gumrah made in 1993. It starred Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Rahul Roy and was about a man who goes over board to rescue his love who is held captive in a foreign nation. Braja – The Jigra makers ticked off the boxed of remaking GUMRAH but with some changes.” An added complexity in twist is Gone in a few paragraphs turns.
Sources went on to say, “It wasn’t a huge challenge getting the rights of Gumrah. He said, But it was a product of Dharma Productions, who has produced Jigra too. You recall similarly, the scenario remembers one of Dharma Productions Agneepath 1990 produced in 2012 by Karan Johar with Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt at its leads.”
The source further said, “But, what is exciting is that the film Gumrah was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and in the current version his daughter Alia is the lead.”
Different partnerships back the production of Jigra. Viacom18 Studios, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Misha of Dharma Productions, as well as Alia Bhatt and her sister Shaheen Bhatt are all included.
It remains the second production by the Eternal Sunshine Productions company owned by Alia and Shaheen after Love Panti Darlings 2022. He is known for his work in Monica O My Darling 2022, Vasan Bala is the director here.
Jigra is set to release in cinemas on October 11 that is the Dussehra week. Which is her last film release for the year 2024. She is expected to be in two films next year, part of the YRF Spy Universe film titled Alpha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
