On June 15, late at night, the Chikkamagaluru district administration declared a day off for schools and anganwadis in Koppa, Sringeri, N.R. Pura, Mudigere, Kalasa and Chikkamagaluru taluks on July 16.
This decision was taken by the district administration because of heavy rains that caused uprooting of trees and electric poles in the district.
The Hebbala bridge that connects Kalasa to Horanadu has been submerged due to water; therefore movement of vehicles has been hampered. To stop vehicles from passing through the bridge, policemen placed barricades at either end.
Also at Sringeri, Tunga River is up to its necks. The local government has banned travel between Kurubagere Road and Gandhi Field. Police have also put blocks to restrain travellers from coming into this area.
