The Supreme Court on hearing today (September 18, 2024) the appeal formulation concerning December 2022 ruling allowing arrest and attachment of property in relation to the PMLA by the Enforcement Directorate was examined further today – it was postponed to October 3.
Before the bench headed by Justice Surya Kant, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) mentioned the matter and sought adjournment.
Kapil Sibal senior advocate who represents the petitioners appeared vehemently opposed to this. The bench of the top court in its business also agreed to adjourn the matter, posting it for hearing on October 3.
The bench was looking into a series of applications for seeking a review of the judgment pronounced by the three judges bench on July 27, 2022, regarding the appeals raising certain issues.
The PMLA, in its 2022 ruling, upheld the sanctioned powers of the ED to arrest and attach properties relating to money laundering, search, and seizure.
