DUBAI: The State News agency SPA has announced on Sunday that Saudi Arabia has appointed a new ambassador to Syria; this is their first envoy since the closure of its embassy in 2012 during the Syrian civil war.
SPA said Al-Mujfel would be the new ambassador of Riyadh to Syria.
The reopening of its embassy by Saudi Arabia in Syria for instance happened earlier this year after they severed diplomatic ties over years ago with each other.
Syria reopened its embassy in Riyadh last year and appointed a new ambassador in December.
Resumption of relations between Riyadh and Damascus became one of the most important steps taken by some Arab states towards normalizing with Bashar al-Assad, president of Syria, who was deserted by many western countries and Arabian states after Syrian civil started back in 2011.
