On July 31, the former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar was sworn in as the twelfth Governor of Jharkhand.
The 76-year-old Mr. Gangwar succeeded C.P Radhakrishnan who became the Governor of Maharashtra.
It happened when Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Sujit Narayan Prasad, performed his oath.
Others present at the occasion included Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief Secretary L. Khiangte and some ministers and dignitaries in Ranchi on the occasion of its swearing in ceremony.
Gangwar appreciated his Prime Minister and Central Government for having chosen him to be governor of Jharkhand he said he was glad to be in the land of Birsa Munda a tribal icon.
“This is how this State will define its path towards progress with its unique identity from other states based on abundant resources,” he told reporters. “I am sure that under Hemant Soren’s direction, Jharkhand will grow stronger.”
Mr. Gangwar has been an eight-time BJP MP from Bareilly Lok Sabha seat and minister in governments led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi.
If not given a ticket by BJP for Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had declared that they would give him some new tasks.
This marked beginning of Mr. Gangwar’s journey into electoral politics when he lost to Congress’ Abida Begum, wife of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed in 1984 following which he contested Lok Sabha polls again in 1989 winning for the first time as an MP.
He won all Lok Sabha elections from 1989 to 2019 except for one year when Praveen Singh Aron defeated him representing Congress party during 2009 parliamentary elections.
C.P Radhakrishnan, the outgoing Governor was fare welled by the CM at the airport earlier in the day.
