film producer Sanjay Leela Bhansaliwho made his web series debut with the lavish OTT show “Constitution: Diamond Bazaar”, recently reflected on his humble upbringing and how his love for art and film started with his father. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s father Navin Bhansali never achieved success as a producer. Aakkoo’s fantasy action film starring Anwar Hussain, P Jairaj, Shashikala and Maruti Rao failed to take off.
In an interview with The New York Times, Bhansali recalled that his father made a strange request before his death because he wanted to hear Reshma’s song “Hayo Rabba”.The director said Reshma Known for her “raw, untrained” voice, she stayed in Pakistan during the partition of India, where the Bhansali family originated.
When SLB returned with the tape containing the song, his father was unconscious and soon fell into a coma. Bhansali expressed deep emotion about his father’s last wish and further added, “My mother insisted that I play ‘Hayo Rabba’ even though I had no place to play it!” He explained that his father chose this particular song song because he wanted to stay connected to his heritage. He said: “Life is so fascinating. Will this be made into a movie?”
An emotional Bhansali recalled a time in his childhood when his father took him to watch a movie when he was six years old. He shared how convenient it was and realized he didn’t want to be anywhere – not at school, not at the cricket ground, or anywhere else. He shared: “I don’t want to be on the cricket field, I don’t want to go to school, I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to be here. This is my place.
On the work front, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT series “HeeraMandi: Diamond Bazaar” is an eight-episode television series that premiered on May 1 in 190 countries. His film Love & War starring Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is scheduled to release this year.
