On Monday, Sergei Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, accused the United States of America of quitting a Soviet-era treaty on arms control so that they would be able to create weapons which will make China afraid.
In 2018, the then US President Donald Trump said they would withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) signed in 1987 by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev which prohibited using missiles and other nuclear-based weapons by the two countries. Washington officially withdrew in August last year.
The publication of the Foreign Ministry “International Life,” was told by Ryabkov that now “the reason for Washington’s decision has been revealed with absolute, undeniable clarity.”
“To intimidate People’s Republic of China Americans needed to leave this agreement and build such systems,” explained Ryabkov.
“And it is no coincidence that we have recently had a sharply intensified discussion about when and where the Americans might begin to deploy their medium-range weapons in the Asia-Pacific region. Well, in Europe as well, but above all in the Asia-Pacific region,” he added.
