The US journalist, Evan Gershkovich, has been on trial in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg behind closed doors since Wednesday for spying charges that may likely lead to a sentence of up to twenty years imprisonment.
According to prosecutors, Gershkovich secretly collected information about Russia’s war in Ukraine through the orders given by CIA officers. His newspaper, the accused and US government all deny this saying he was doing his normal work as a correspondent who is accredited by foreign ministry to work in Russia. The Kremlin refused to comment.
The court said the next session would take place on Aug 13 after hours of closed proceedings.
