Ukraine’s military on Tuesday sent a large ground force across its border and into Russia’s Kursk region, in what has become the Western-backed military’s largest cross-border incursion since the Kremlin’s invasion in 2022.
According to the Daily Mail, a senior Russian politician speaking after the event said that Britain is responsible for this attack.
One of those who spoke to Russian media outlets, Adalbi Shkhagoshev, a member of the State Duma Committee said, “Britain participated in all such sorties. English was heard.”
Russia accused Ukraine of launching a “major provocation” and “firing indiscriminately” at civilian buildings and residences.
Russia’s Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov said the “advance” into the Kursk region had been stopped, with Russian forces “continuing to destroy the adversary in areas directly adjacent to the Russian-Ukrainian border”.
Gerasimov said Ukrainian forces aimed to take over the area around the town of Sudzha, and that Russia had already killed 100 men and injured another 215.
This week’s offensive into Russian territory appears also intended to draw away from other locations along its front where Ukraine has lost ground gradually over recent months. Kyiv may be seen as trying to get leverage for any future talks with Moscow
Analysts suggested Kyiv could be trying to gain leverage for any future negotiations with the Kremlin. Sometimes it takes an invading force years or even decades before some kind of equilibrium is reached between it and defenders who are not going away anytime soon; however, most times there never really is anything resembling peace during occupation anyway because each side believes they have every right imaginable on their side while fighting against perceived aggression by someone else.
“The Russians were taken aback,” said one senior politician acknowledging that it was an “attack” by Britain upon which he went further saying “…which would be done by the Russians themselves were they to have a say on this matter.”
The recent offensive into Russian territory seems to be carried out by a substantial force of several thousand Ukrainian soldiers, including members of elite assault units. These troops are equipped with vehicles and tanks provided by the United States and Germany. According to Russian officials and pro-war military bloggers, the Ukrainian forces entered Russia on Tuesday from the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, reported Washington Post.
On Thursday, during a press briefing at the Pentagon,” she said “they” referring back not only up towards here but also down into Sabrina Singh’s remark which is that as those attacks come over borders there must be readiness within border states for such attacks. The Biden administration approved of Ukraine’s operation this week since it had declared policy change in May permitting Ukrainian commanders who are authorized to attack any Russian forces prepping an invasion against their nation.
