Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said that almost one million Rohingyas refugees are now in “increasingly dire conditions” within Cox’s Bazar camps in Bangladesh as armed groups and criminal gangs engage in increased violence against them.
In August, there have been killings, abductions, forced recruitment, extortion and robbery carried out by the Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) and Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). The global rights body has said Bangladesh government has fail to ensure refugees’ access to protection, education, livelihoods and movement.
Bangladesh’s interim govt chief adviser, Prof Muhammad Yunus, said he will “continue to support the million-plus Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh”. Foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain said they are not in a position to accept more refugees.
