Recalling the days of externment, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sharad Pawar gave a talk at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday night to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “Godfather of corruption” remark on himself.
While addressing his party functionaries in Maharashtra ahead of the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly election, Mr. Shah called Sharad Pawar “Godfather of corruption” and one who institutionalized graft.” He also called Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as Aurangzeb Fan Club along with other two partners Congress and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
Mr. Pawar in his speech said, “A few days back, Mr. Shah said a few things about me with regards to corrupt people in India and its leader. But it is strange that person who misused law was externed by Supreme Court from Gujarat is India’s home minister.”
According to Mr. Pawar,. “The way people are in whose hands are taking this incorrect path whom we should ponder and think about it or else I am sure that they will take our country on a wrong path,” Mr. Pawar said.
Shah was accused in 2005 for allegedly approving Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case as he was alleged to have endorsed faking encounter with him. In July 2010 Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheeted him and arrested him. In October 2010 CBI challenged the bail granted by Gujarat High court arguing that he could tamper with evidence or threaten witnesses since he had political influence at gujarat . The Supreme Court upheld the argument banning shah from gujarat till trial ends or he proves otherwise. As a result, Mr. Shah had stayed out of the state for around two years starting from October 2010.
