SHENZHEN: The dikes were broken by the water flooding out of China’s second largest fresh water lake in south of country. Chinese State media has said, “Over 5,700 people have been relocated meanwhile rescue teams are containing further damage from the outflows” on Saturday.
China Central Television reported that over 2,300 rescuers had embarked on constructing another line of defense against floods after the breach occurred across an area covering 226 meters (740 feet) in Hunan Province.
Informed sources say that there have not been any casualties up to this early hour Saturday morning.
Footage from state media depicted a wave of water breaching through a dike near overturned trucks and into homes.
On Tuesday, China’s Ministry of Water Resources also revealed they were closely monitoring water levels at Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province while heavy rain was pounding parts of Hunan Province earlier this week which led to Pingjiang County’s Miluo River reaching its highest level for 70 years.
