As a rescue operation continued in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir following a cloud burst, two bodies including that of a twelve year old boy were recovered on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, whereas rescue was on to trace five targets who were also reported missing, officials stated.
“In Rajgarh tehsil there was cloud burst in Panchayat Kumate, Dhraman and Halla which was the late Monday afternoon of 26 August 2024 followed due to resultant weather conditions and the flash floods occurred in streams of Tanger and Dadi,” they said.
Tehsildar Rajgarh Major Singh also stated that seven people of three different families were reported missing on the flash floods as well.
Mr. Singh who is supervising the rescue operation has said that in spite of gloomy weather performing rescue operation two persons namely Yasir Ahmad (20) of Gadgram and Khalid Ahmed Parihar (12) of Suli-Kumate have been brought dead by the rescue team so far.
He said operations are being conducted to search for the other remaining five – Ahmad’s mother Naseema Begum (42) and six-year-old daughter Shazia Banoo; Parihar’s mother Gulshan Begum (42) and her daughter eight-year-old Seerat Banoo; and six-year-old Qazia Banoo from Dungar Dandllah.
The rescuers include members from the state disaster management team of the state (SDRF), local law enforcement agencies and members of the community.
Mr. Singh mentioned that due to incessant rain, the rescue work has slowed as the streams are overflowing. “It took almost three hours for the rescuers to walk to the effected villages,” he added.
“Gadgram and Sonsua have at least two government schools that suffered some damages; besides other government infrastructure and 3 parked private vehicles were washed away in the flash flood, the officials said.
