Mukerji and Johar have been invited to speak at the Australian Parliament in preparation for IFFM 2024
Keynote speech will be honored by dignitaries, MPs and ministers from different countries which gives away how wide is the cultural influence of the Indian movie industry across the globe. This is as the festival commemorates its 15th year since conception and on the same note that an Australia-India coproduction treaty has been signed sealed as a gateway into that relationship. Their idea is to talk about cinema’s ability to unite people across borders, bridging cultures.
“I am proud to represent Indian film fraternity at Australian Parliament House where I will take pride in speaking about our immense contribution towards global cinema. For us it is an important occasion, firstly because it represents another step in deepening cultural relations between India and Australia through film, especially when they are at their height. Among them Odia, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi Telegu Malayalam Punjabi Gujarati Bengali Asamese Kannada and other languages are currently leading in shaping pop culture everywhere with our talent globally marketed films. Our movies give joy to people all over the world; there is a lot of color added into people’s lives by our films. As an entertainer I have always loved watching people respond emotionally to what we put out there as an industry. To me this means that not only do i respect my nation but i also honor its various societies shown through her national cinema. For me this momentous occasion would not have happened without Indian Film Festival of Melbourne’s tireless efforts in achieving such milestone.” said Rani Mukerji.
According to director Karan Johar “It feels amazing that I can become part of those who will address parliamentarians inside Australian Parliament House. The journey of Indian cinema has been incredible for me personally too; this event marks one more step forward on our way”.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is a beacon of cultural exchange, showing the diverse range of Indian film making at its best.
