According to a report, Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari are doing a film called Ramayana: 12 lavish sets replicating Ayodhya and Mithila in Mumbai are being erected; the shoot will begin again late August 2024.
In Film City, work is progressing at a fast pace as twelve sprawling sets are springing up. Mid-Day reports that these opulent sets for the 3D format of the film will re-create iconic spots like Ayodhya and Mithila which are famous as Ram and Sita cities respectively. The aim is to finish these huge constructions by mid-August.
Afterwards, Sai Pallavi will play Sita opposite Kapoor’s Ram, while Arun Govil (who played Ram in the legendary television series Ramayan) will portray King Dasharath. Yash has been signed on for Ravana in what could be a career-defining role.
Although it has focused more on young days of Ram so far, the production is now moving into its next phase with principal cast members preparing to start shooting again by August end. There was another surprising information about how this movie was going to be structured: it would be a two part epic.
What makes this different from traditional sequels where greenlighting follows performance of the first part is their aggressive approach in producing Ramayana. A large portion of the second part parallel filming with the first one has been planned.
The production schedule is an intricately worked out plan spread over 350 days that includes both individual scenes as well as group ones. We aim to complete principal photography for both parts by December 2025 so there’s enough time left for post-production handled by DNEG, a renowned visual effects studio. While no release date has been announced yet, it is expected to follow after wrapping up shooting first part.
