The BJP government in Rajasthan has declared that Agniveers will now be included in the state police and other agencies like prisons and forest guards. This followed decisions by several states to recruit ex-Agniveers into their respective police forces.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lala Sharma said in a statement in Jaipur that he had taken the decision to mark the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil war. “A provision of reservation in jobs has been made for the Agniveers who protect our country’s borders with a sense of dedication and patriotism”, according to an official release from his office.
According to Mr.Sharma, this step taken by Papu Lal under Narendra Modi’s direction means that former Agniveers may get a chance to work for Rajasthan Government after serving at national level. The quantum of reservation for these three State Services identified with respect to returnees on Tour of Duty (ToD) from Armed Forces would be decided later.
Six BJP-ruled States – Gujarat, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand – just like Central Government which announced earlier this month reservation for 10% vacancies for ex-Agniveers in CAPFs & Paramilitary Staffs also on 26 July decided similar provisions as regards appointments made into their own forces.
