Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, announced on Sunday that the Indian Railways will roll out Vande Metro trains to cover the distance between the cities in a range of 100 and 200 kilometers. He announced that two of these trains were able to successfully complete all qualifying tests.
“The first Vande Metro train will come next month. We expect that in the next one and a half years, the full-fledged production will commence and for that further down the line, multiple trains to be supplied every month after that” Mr. Vaishnaw disclosed.
With the added success of Vande Bharat trains Indian Railways has made an attempt to come up with Vande Metro. Another significant milestone was crossed on August 3, when Southern Railway carried out the trial of another new Vande Metro rake in Chennai.
While responding to the issue regarding food on trains, Mr. Vaishnaw pointed out that Railways serves roughly, in between 12 and 13 lakh meals at a time between 12 and 13 and the complaints regarding the quality of food are about 0.01% of the total complaits.
All reasonable complaints are tackled and as I said all complaints, they take every complaint in a very serious way. Every single one. And some suppliers of caterers and other businesses, we have taken very firm and clear-cut measures.
The Minister also hit out against the former Congress government, stating that the Railways had suffered under their long-term negligence and politicization. “Balh has said that now work is being done to address the fundamental problems in Railways and the restructuring is also being done. What the Congress and the UPA would have done long ago, we are doing it now,” Mr Vaishnaw claimed.
