The Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi was met by Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka and also by Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief at Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru on June 7, 2024.
Rahul Gandhi, who is a Congress leader arrived in Bengaluru on June 7th. He will attend court at ten-thirty AM to answer charges of criminal defamation raise against him by the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stemming from advertisements published during campaign for the 2023 State Legislative Assembly polls which described BJP as corrupt.
Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar greeted Mr. Gandhi at Kempegowda International Airport this morning.
On June 1st, Mr Siddaramaiah and Mr Shivakumar were granted bail in relation to the same case.
Furthermore; later he will have a meeting with Congress MPs elected from Karnataka and those defeated at Bharat Jodo Bhavan in the city starting from 11:30 am. Shri. D K Shivakumar MLA and Former CM of Karnataka Sri. Siddaramaiaha will be present there too.
Shivakumar said that “Rahul Gandhi appeared before the court responding to a summons issued to him relating to advertisement published by congress party regarding corruption rate card placed by BJP where Yatnal himself said that you should pay ₹2,500 crore for BSY’s Chief Ministership in BJP. The ad contained various media reports about corruption associated with BJP. It was an attempt to defame Rahul Gandhi”
On June 1st, calling them defamatory on Friday. Congress leaders argued that Rahul Gandhi had no concern with advertisements published by their party in Karnataka even as BJP Karnataka unit sought non-bailable warrant against Rahul Gandhi for non-appearance
Though it excused his appearance on June first but it insisted that Rahul Gandhi must be present on June 7th.
The case of defamation was taken up based on a private complaint filed before the court by Keshav Prasad, who is a BJP MLC alleging that Congress leaders were terming BJP Government’s dispensation from 2019 to 2023 in the State as corrupt.
